Description

Espelette pepper is prized chilli pepper from the Basque Country. It’s the only French spice that holds PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status.

Beloved by chefs, this aromatic pepper has a mild heat and intriguing flavour. It’s fruity, smoky and slightly sweet. Espelette pepper is often used as a substitute for black pepper.

In the Basque Country, this aromatic pepper is used to season chicken and fish dishes. It’s a key flavouring in piperade, a stew made with tomatoes, onion and red peppers.

Espelette pepper is particularly good with egg dishes. We like to stir it through scrambled eggs or sprinkle it over cheese omelettes. It’s also great with grilled vegetables, like aubergine and courgette.

For a dessert with a difference, add a pinch of Espelette pepper to a dark chocolate tart.

Store in an airtight container in a dark, dry place.
