Description

Oriental hot mustard powder is made from mustard seeds with a hint of turmeric. Simply add water, mix well and set aside for 4-5 minutes. This fiery powder is a popular ingredient in Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

Oriental mustard powder adds rich, spicy flavour to your dish. It can be added to dressings, marinades and sauces for meat and fish. It goes particularly well with rich meats like pork and duck. Try serving it as a condiment with pork tonkatsu.

In Japan, hot mustard powder is known as karashi. It is mixed with white miso and rice vinegar to make a dressing called karashi-su-miso. This tangy, spicy sauce is delicious with fish, poached chicken and vegetables (steamed or raw).

Add this versatile powder to dumpling sauces, salad dressings and pickle brine. You can also stir it through mayonnaise to spice up sandwiches and burgers.
